Party Idea: Sandwich Buffet

PERFECT FOR BIRTHDAY PARTY OR CASUAL GET TOGETHER’S

INGREDIENTS LIST:

Assorted breads (Foccacia, Pumpernickel, Wheat, Bagels, Croissants, etc)

Assorted Deli thin sliced cheeses (Swiss, Cheddar, Provolone, Pepper jack, etc)

Thin sliced deli meats (Turkey, Ham, Hard Salame, Roast Beef) I also like turkey bacon, cooked ahead of time.

Buy or make several kinds of spreads or condiments (Mayo, mustard couple kinds, other sauces you prefer, Pesto (I make fresh – see recipe for this in my recipe section) If there are kids, you could include PB&J or other favorite.

2-3 kinds of lettuce-for color (Kale, Iceberg, romaine etc)

Tomatoes

Onion – Purple and Yellow

Pickles – sweet and dill

Other fresh sandwich toppings as preferred

PREP:

Wash and dry all lettuce – Set aside amount needed for sandwiches. Use the rest to line large serving plates for the assorted meats and cheeses.

Arrange meat and cheeses atop the lettuce plates, grouping together by types.

Place assorted breads in large towel lined basket

Group together all condiments and sandwich toppings in small bowls with serving spoons or knives

If you have a George Foreman grill, have it heated and ready to go for those who want hot sandwiches.

A couple bowls of assorted potato chips and fresh fruit or cold pasta or potato salad are all you need to finish out this feast!

Serve all buffet style, letting guest make their own favorite sandwich creations. If you want to have fun with this and make it more creative, make small name cards that identity the kinds of spreads, meats and cheeses. Also suggestive sandwich creation ideas are great for the uninspired guests.

This is great for any size party for adults and/or kids and can be customized to the group and budget.

And who doesn’t like sandwiches?

A pic from that party! Sept 2007

RR Note: I did this buffet for a birthday party for my husband a few years ago and it was a hit. We finished the evening off with a fruit pizza for dessert instead of the standard birthday cake. See my recipes for the Fruit Pizza recipe. If you wanted to share the cost of the meal, you could assign everyone to bring an item. Enjoy!
